About The Menschen

According to Wikipedia, a Mensch is “a person of integrity and honor.” Leo Rosten’s The New Joys of Yiddish defines a mensch as “someone to admire and emulate, someone of noble character. The key to being ‘a real mensch‘ is nothing less than character, rectitude, dignity, a sense of what is right, responsible, decorous.”

This site is dedicated to doing the right thing every day, injecting a bit more civility, morality and ethics into modern day life.┬áIt was inspired by a sermon given by Rabbi Ilana Schwartzman of Congregration Kol Ami in Salt Lake City on Yom Kippur 2011/5772. She challenged her congregation to consider, “what would a mensch do?” every day in order to lead a better, more fulfilling life. Although the site was inspired by a rabbi, and even though the word mensch is Yiddish, this site is for anyone seeking to better themselves, no matter their religion, gender, race, national origin or sexual orientation.

Now go forth and be menschen!
